Postgraduate Research Associate

Postgraduate Research Associate / Neuroengineer

Center for Neurostimulation in Epilepsy
Yale Comprehensive Epilepsy Center

The Center for Neurostimulation in Epilepsy is seeking a highly motivated Postgraduate Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary team. Our group is advancing the use of brain implanted neurostimulation devices for epilepsy and to using knowledge gained from intracranial recordings in these patients to understanding the neuroscience of cognition. This role sits at the intersection of clinical care and cutting-edge neuroscience, supporting both clinical trials and basic science studies. You will work in a collaborative environment involving experts in neurology, neurosurgery, and cognitive neuroscience to investigate brain stimulation (including RNS and DBS) and intracranial EEG signals. This position involves extensive collaboration with other laboratories throughout the medical school and with the Wu Tsai Institute. Prior laboratory members in this role have gone on to competitive graduate schools, medical schools, and residency programs. A two-year commitment is expected, subject to further discussions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Recruit and consent patients for clinical and basic science studies studies involving invasive and non-invasive brain stimulation.
  • Administer cognitive research tasks and behavioral testing with clinical participants.
  • Support the collection of intracranial EEG (iEEG), Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS), and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) data.
  • Hardware development to interface brain stimulation and recording systems.
  • Advanced analysis of iEEG signals and neural data to support study objectives.
  • Maintain and organize research databases of intracranial EEG recordings and patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with signal processing and programming (MATLAB, R, and/or Python).
  • Strong interpersonal skills for patient interaction and the ability to work effectively within a large, interdisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience with neural data or clinical research would be a plus but is not strictly required for the right candidate with strong technical foundations.
