Description
The House Manager (HM) is a paid employee of the Housing & Residence Life department at Hobart and William Smith.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate status for the 2025-2026 academic year per the Registrar.
- 2.5 Cumulative GPA or higher and good social standing with HWS.
- Must complete all on-line and in-person trainings before each semester of employment.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a sense of community within the house by instilling the house’s mission into daily interactions with the residents.
- Serve as a role model within the house, on campus, as well as off campus.
- Implement and evaluate 1 theme-related program per month – totaling 3 per semester.
- Assure that student behavior in the theme house is in accordance with the Colleges’ policies as outlined in the Handbook of Community Standards. Follow identified process when concerns regarding safety and security of the theme house community occur.
- Assist with keeping the theme house in compliance with New York State Fire Code and help correct behavioral violations.
- Attend monthly one-on-one meetings with a Housing & Residence Life employee.
- Contribute to critical and creative thinking as a member of the Theme House Council.
- Be a liaison between the theme house and the Housing & Residence Life department.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions – including before each semester.
- Work to maintain a positive working relationship with Buildings & Grounds and Campus Safety through consistent and professional communication.
- Fulfill administrative duties including house occupancy updates, work orders, and checking HWS email on a regular basis.
- Conduct house meetings as necessary to relay important information to residents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Compensation:
- First selection of room assignment (after medical accommodations have been assigned).
- Bi-weekly pay rate totaling 3 hours of work per week.

Students should ensure they have their documents on campus or have a plan to get their documents to campus if they are hired to work on campus.
