Summer Internship- Business Office

Location: High Rocks, 195 Thompson Rd., Hillsboro, WV 24946  
Duration: 10 weeks, M-F, 9-5  
Internship Type: Business Office (Living Allowance Provided, Housing and Meals Provided)

Overview:  
The High Rocks Summer Internship offers a unique opportunity to serve, develop professional skills, and engage in impactful work. This internship is designed for college students pursuing degrees in business or related fields, who are eager to contribute to positive change within their communities. Through hands-on experiences in youth development, outdoor youth summer camp operations, business operations, and program analysis, interns will gain valuable skills in leadership, data analysis, and financial management, while helping to empower young people.  

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

Workforce Development:  

Participate in research, internships, job shadowing, and resume/application building.  

Support with ongoing professional development.  

Gain experience in developing your portfolio and building leadership skills.  

Analyze organizational financial data and assist with year-end reconciliation for payroll, benefits, and financial records.  

 

Leadership Development:  

Mentor and guide younger participants, developing your leadership skills in a supportive environment.  

Participate in public speaking, leading meetings, and engaging in leadership development activities.   

Serve as a mentor, helping to foster positive relationships and encouraging leadership development.  

 

Community-Building & Mentorship:  

Build a positive organizational culture by participating in outreach, networking, and community-building activities.  

Assist in organizing and maintaining summer camp operations, fostering health, wellness, and fellowship among participants.  

Mentor youth participants in an outdoor wilderness camp setting, helping to create a supportive and safe environment.  

Contribute to events, activities, and reflective learning processes that promote community and shared growth.  

 

Change Work & Program Development:  

Engage in data collection for informed decision-making and program improvements.  

Support business and social enterprise strategies by analyzing program costs, revenues, and suggesting sustainable solutions.  

Work with staff to scale and develop plans to implement new program changes, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.  

 

Operational Support & Camp Administration:  

Assist with the logistics of our outdoor summer camp preparation, including set-up, maintenance, and operations support while developing key project management skills and enhancing organizational and leadership skills.  

Serve alongside the camp administration team.  

 

Qualifications:  

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Business, Finance, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.   

Strong organizational and time management skills.  

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.  

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  

Strong written and verbal communication skills.  

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  

Passion for nonprofit work and community service.
