Position Overview

Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI) is seeking highly motivated undergraduate students to participate in its Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). This immersive summer program provides hands-on, laboratory-based research experience in a collaborative biomedical research environment.

SURF fellows are matched with HMRI faculty mentors and work alongside scientists on independent research projects, gaining exposure to the full scientific research process, from experimental design and data collection to analysis and presentation.

Research Areas

Research opportunities may include, but are not limited to:

Alzheimer’s disease

Neurovascular research

Migraine

Vaping and e-cigarette cardiac toxicity

Cardiovascular signaling

Key Responsibilities

Participate in day-to-day research activities within an HMRI laboratory

Conduct hands-on experimental and laboratory work under faculty mentorship

Learn and apply core laboratory techniques and research methodologies

Prepare and present research findings at the conclusion of the program

Eligibility Requirements

Must be a full-time undergraduate student entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year

Students do not need to be science majors

A background in general biology and/or general chemistry is recommended

Demonstrated interest in biomedical research

Must be available to participate full-time on-site in Pasadena for the duration of the program

Housing and transportation are not provided
