We are hiring multiple counselors across our 14 Language Villages, including Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.
Role Overview
Under the guidance of the Village Dean and administrative team, Summer Camp Counselors support immersive language learning by teaching through daily interactions, activities, and community living. Counselors live with campers (“villagers”), help create a positive cabin community, and actively participate in all aspects of Village life while modeling language use and cultural engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Speak the target language with campers and staff as much as possible throughout the day
- Teach language through interactive lessons and activities such as games, arts, sports, and cultural programs
- Live in a cabin with campers as part of a counseling team, providing supervision and support
- Participate in meals, song times, evening programs, cultural events, and staff meetings
- Lead games, cabin activities, and community-building experiences
- Support camper arrival and departure routines and daily camp logistics as needed
- Assist with light cleaning of Village spaces to help maintain a safe, hygienic environment
- Serve as a positive role model for behavior, language use, and community standards
Ideal Candidate Skills
- Conversational proficiency in the target language
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with children and adolescents
- Maturity, good judgment, and adaptability in a fast-paced, communal environment
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse staff team
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Completed two years of language study or equivalent fluency
- Broad knowledge of the language’s culture
- Experience working with children or youth
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous summer camp or Concordia Language Villages experience
- Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or working in youth programs
- Teaching licensure or formal education experience in the target language
