Location: John McIntire Library 220 N. Fifth St Zanesville, OH 43701
Salary: $23.24- $25.98 per hour (40 hours a week, varied schedule)

The Muskingum County Library System is seeking a creative, energetic, and community-minded Librarian I to join our Youth Services department. In this role, you will be the face of the library for children and teens, helping them explore new worlds through our collections, technology, and innovative programming.
Responsibilities:
Engage & Educate: Provide direct assistance to youth and their families, answering reference questions and providing expert "reader’s advisory" to match the right book with the right reader.
Create & Perform: Plan and lead exciting youth programs, including storytimes, crafts, and educational activities. You will also play a key role in our annual Summer Reading Program.
Outreach: Take the library on the road! You’ll visit schools, daycare centers, and community groups to promote literacy and library services.
Curate the Collection: Help maintain a vibrant youth collection by selecting new materials, managing digital resources (eBooks/databases), and "weeding" outdated items to keep our shelves fresh and relevant.
Tech Support: Assist customers with library technology, including the online catalog, eReaders, and tablets.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science/Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
- Broad reading background in youth literature
- Valid State of Ohio driver’s license
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of library science, practices, and technology
- Knowledge of youth literature and collection management
- Knowledge of children’s developmental stages and reading preferences
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to relate well with youth of varying economic and social backgrounds
- Ability to organize work; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with customers and co-
- workers
- Ability to exhibit creativity to prepare informative and entertaining programs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive subject matter.
- Skill in creating age-appropriate youth programs
- Skill in use of library resources and electronic equipment.
