Camp Counselor
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director and Summer Camp Coordinator, a Camp Counselor provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements the program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the utmost importance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operates in ratio of age group assigned and fulfilled all of the responsibilities of a counselor plus:
- Leading their age group and actively engaging with all children in the group.
- Leading swim lessons for non-swimmers during swim times (assistance given when needed based on ratios).
- Helps lead weekly camp meetings and trainings.
- Helps plan components of camp
- Is a role model for Y policies and practices.
- Helps perform specific duties on field trips such as bus head counts, checking the field trip in with the destination, carrying camper medication, and others as needed
- Is responsible for the cleanliness of program area.
- Other duties as needed and assigned by Camp Coordinators and Senior Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting is preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
- Run, jump, lift, carry, push, as well as any other physical actions that are needed.
