Position Summary
The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging Upper School Mathematics Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

We are looking for an educator who views mathematics not just as a set of rules to be memorized, but as a language of logic and exploration. Our ideal candidate is a "math-enthusiast" who thrives in a student-centered environment where problem-solving is the primary vehicle for learning.

• Versatile Practitioner: You are equally comfortable teaching foundational Algebra as you are leading advanced seminars in Calculus, Discrete Math, and Number Theory.

• Collaborative Innovator: You enjoy working across departments to find mathematical connections in other disciplines and are excited to design immersive learning experiences like our Spring Intensive.

Responsibilities

• Instruction: Teach four courses across the mathematics curriculum, ranging from introductory levels to advanced post-Calculus electives.
• Advising: Serve as an advisor to a group of students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional development.
• Pedagogical Leadership: Guide students in developing critical thinking skills through symbols, graphical representations, and oral expression.
• Spring Intensive: Collaborate cross-departmentally on the development and execution of a dedicated Spring Intensive course.
• Community Contribution: Fulfill an additional “plus one” requirement (e.g., coaching, club leadership, or community service coordination).
• Availability: Provide extra mathematical support for students during flex and community times.
• Engagement: Participate in all required faculty meetings, department collaborations, and professional development activities.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field is required; an advanced degree (MA, MS, or PhD) is highly preferred.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Deep mastery of the full secondary math sequence (Algebra through Calculus) and familiarity with higher-level concepts such as Statistics, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra.
• Pedagogical Skill: Proven experience with student-centered teaching models and fluency in current discipline-specific pedagogy.
• Communication: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex logic clearly.
• Inclusive Excellence: A deep-seated commitment to cultivating a culture of belonging where every student feels seen and valued. This includes the ability to design an inclusive classroom that ensures equitable access to high-level mathematics for a diverse student body.
• Community Mindset: The interpersonal skills necessary to build a supportive community and work cross-functionally with diverse constituency groups, in alignment with Pingry's mission and Honor Code.
• Tech Literacy: Proficiency in educational technology (Google Suite, Canvas/Google Classroom, graphing software, and virtual meeting platforms).
• Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and pivot between in-person and virtual instruction if necessary.

The salary range for this position is $60,000-$110,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and education.
