AmeriCorps Member

Sunset Park AmeriCorps, is a full-time, service program for people ages 18+. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Members work directly with the community based programs through the Family Health Centers at NYU Langone. Without the support of AmeriCorps, immigrant families who face significant barriers to family stability are unable to access targeted services that directly address early childhood development support, academic enrichment, and economic empowerment. ParentChild+ is a national, evidence-based home visiting program that promotes school readiness and strengthens families with children ages 16 to 48 months. Members will serve in-need families of the Sunset Park community. Services provided by the member include twice-weekly visits, partnering with caregivers to strengthen positive parent-child interactions and support children’s social-emotional, cognitive, and early literacy development through reading, conversation, and play. The AmeriCorps service members in this position provide access to early childhood services to families who are culturally isolated or not currently accessing these services. In doing so, the AmeriCorps member ensures that pre-school aged children are sufficiently prepared for school success once they enter a formal school setting. The members also ensure that parents have the child development knowledge they need to best support their children academically, as well as access to wraparound and family support services. Required Qualifications: -Must be able to speak English & Spanish or English & Mandarin -Must be able to serve in person, M-F full time Preferred Qualifications: Associate or Bachelor Degree in related field Full time NYU Langone Sunset Park AmeriCorps members receive a living Allowance of $23,000, as well an Education Award of $7,395.
