What You Need to Get Started in New Jersey
To lead a classroom:
- Option 1: An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in any major and a valid New Jersey substitute teaching credential
- Option 2: A 60-credit or 30-credit NJ Instructional Substitute Credential
- You must also complete a background check and TB test. We’ll walk you through the process.
If you do not yet hold a credential, you may still be eligible for classroom support roles like paraprofessional or teacher’s aide. These roles are a great entry point while you pursue your credential.
