Summer 2026 Internship - Metallurgical / Chemical

About Us – Mako Mining Corp is a publicly listed gold mining, development and exploration company. The Company operates the high-grade San Albino gold mine in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, which ranks as one of the highest-grade open pit gold mines globally and offers district-scale exploration potential. Mako also owns the Moss Mine in Arizona, an open pit gold mine in northwestern Arizona. Mako also holds a 100% interest in the PEA-stage Eagle Mountain Project in Guyana, South America. Eagle Mountain is the subject of engineering, environmental and mine permitting activity. Mako US Corp (a subsidiary of Mako Mining Corp.) is currently seeking a qualified student to complete a summer internship with our Metallurgy group in 2026 (May through August).

 

 

About this role – Summer 2026 Internship - Metallurgical / Chemical

 

Our summer internship program offers a hands-on, immersive opportunity to gain real-world experience at our operating mine sites. Over the course of approximately 10 weeks, interns work alongside experienced industry professionals who provide mentorship, guidance, and meaningful exposure to day-to-day operations. Interns are entrusted with substantive projects that deliver measurable value and contribute directly to site performance.

Through a structured program and hands-on access to leading experts and modern mining technology, this internship gives students practical skills and real experience to help launch a successful career. Metallurgy or Chemical interns will gain firsthand exposure to a multitude of mining projects in various phases and types of mining operations. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Adherence to Company Safety, Health and Environmental policies is mandatory
  • Assist in activities and development of procedures in metallurgical lab, assay lab, and process plant
  • Perform sample preparations and metallurgical test work
  • Assist in the design and analysis of metallurgical engineering projects
  • Review metallurgical documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide field support for processing plant construction
  • Assist mine technicians with mine duties

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have completed their freshman year by June 2026 and be a current enrolled full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Mine Engineer, Civil Engineer, Geology, Geotechnical Engineer, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, or other related fields
  • GPA 3.0 or higher is preferred, minimum 2.75 GPA will be considered
  • Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the US without company sponsorship
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to understand, write and apply verbal work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork abilities.

What We Offer

  • Rate: $22-$25/hour based on candidate skills/experience
  • Free, fully furnished housing
  • Transportation to and from the projects

Working Location

 

  • Tucson office-based work and field-based exploration/mine site duties
  • Travel to remote mine or exploration sites as required
  • Exposure to outdoor and mining environments, including open pit and underground settings
  • A valid passport is required for international travel
