Computer Information Science (Programming) Assistant Professor

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

Successful applicants will have experience with teaching or using common programming languages, such as Python, C++, Java, and Assembly, and should also be familiar with R, Rust, or similar other tools which are typically used in Data Science environments. They must be willing to proactively consult and collaborate with faculty members and administrators at partner institutions to which Cosumnes River College's students typically transfer to complete their bachelor's or master's degree. They must further be willing to consult and collaborate with employers and other industry partners, as well as with faculty colleagues working at community colleges in the Greater Sacramento region, on the skills and requirements which our students need to acquire or master to efficiently find employment, update their professional toolkits, or continue their education at a transfer institution. They must also be willing to regularly research, adopt as appropriate, develop related skill sets, and effectively apply emerging technologies, such as modern Artificial Intelligence tools, to help ensure effective student learning and the regular and accurate assessment thereof, and to that end they must be willing to implement and regularly assess the teaching and learning modalities that will allow as many students as possible to achieve their academic goals as effectively as possible.

This is NOT a remote position. Successful applicants must be able to teach courses in-person/on-ground and participate in on-ground, in-person meetings.
 

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8).
