Speech and Language Pathologist
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent for Special Schools and Services/SELPA Director, the Speech and Language Pathologist screens, assesses and provides specialized speech and language services and assistance for students with deficiencies who qualify for services as established by state standards. Develops and implements Individual Education Plans for students who qualify for designated instruction and services, provides speech and language therapy to individual students or groups of students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May include, but not limited to the following:
- Evaluate and identify students in need of speech and language therapy services.
- Assist in developing Individual Education Program (IEP) for students requiring speech and language services
- Implement and monitor IEP
- Provide supportive consultation and collaboration for teachers with students requiring speech and language services in their classes or programs
- Confer with parents and school personnel regarding the provision of speech and language services
- Consult with other professional staff regarding language development programs
- Maintain appropriate records for each student receiving speech and language services
- Provide staff development services to teachers and other staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a valid California Credential authorizing service as a Speech and Language Pathologist
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with TK-12 students
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to maintain a good professional relationship with other professional staff and members of the community
- Demonstrated knowledge of modern principles, trends and practices of language disorders
- Demonstrated knowledge with programs designed to improve communication functions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out essential job functions:
- Sufficient vision to read printed materials
- Sufficient hearing to conduct in person and telephone conversations
- Sufficient mobility to move about the County Office and other sites as may be required
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation distance, on the telephone and to address groups of varying size
- Physical and emotional stamina to cope with sometimes stressful situations and conditions
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Proof of employment eligibility and verification of legal right to work in the United States in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act
- Valid State Issued Driver’s License
- Background clearance
- Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
- CPR/AED for Adults and Children
