Funeral Director Apprentice

Proko Funeral Home, a third-generation family-owned funeral home in Kenosha, WI, is looking for a licensed funeral director apprentice. Ideal candidate would be hard-working, reliable, compassionate, and a great team player. Experience is not necessary; you must have a valid driver's license and live within 30 minutes of the funeral home. 

Work Schedule & Environment

Three scheduled days during office hours, 1-2 nights per week on call, and two weekends on call and two weekends off rotation. 

Compensation

This is an hourly paid position, with additional compensation for on-call hours, and after-hour transfers.

Position Overview

Looking for a personable and confident individual who is eager to learn and contribute to a dedicated team.

  • Ability to talk with families and assist with funeral arrangements
  • Help to plan and facilitate services and visitations
  • Assisting with embalming, cosmetic preparation, cremations and care of the deceased
  • Prepare and care for the deceased, including embalming, dressing, and casketing
  • Maintain funeral home cleanliness and readiness for services
  • Help design, personalize and print necessary paper products for services
  • Participate in removals and transportation of the deceased
  • Other tasks as necessary.

  • Willingness to work nights and weekends. 
  • Enrollment in, or recent graduate of, an accredited mortuary science program 
  • Ability to obtain a Wisconsin Funeral Director Apprentice license within 2 months of hire
  • No prior apprentice experience required—ideal for students beginning their career
