Youth & Family Studio Programs Intern
VMFA is a state-supported, privately endowed educational institution created for the benefit of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its purpose is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret art, to encourage the study of the arts, and thus to enrich the lives of all.
The Youth & Family Studio Programs at VMFA will have 5 internship opportunities for Summer 2026. Interns will spend 12-14 weeks working up to 39 hours/week in Youth & Family Studio Programs learning about careers in museum and art education, gaining hands-on teaching experience with K-12 programs, gathering insight into curriculum and program development, and collaborating with other VMFA departments.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidates should have:
-a background in studio art and/or some experience teaching children;
-strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences both orally and in writing;
-the ability to move around frequently, be physically active, and have the strength to move studio equipment (tables, chairs, heavy bins of supplies, etc.);
-experience using Microsoft Office Suite and other computer programs;
-excellent organizational skills; and
-a willingness to learn, take initiative, and jump in where needed to support team efforts.
Additional Considerations
The selected candidate must pass a criminal history background check.
