Accountant & Payroll Manager
This dual-focus role manages the full cycle of payroll for our seasonal and year-round staff while supporting the broader accounting department in job cost tracking, accounts payable, and financial reporting. You will be the point of contact for employee benefits and the "gatekeeper" of project-specific financial data.
Primary Responsibilities
Payroll Management
- Weekly Payroll Processing: Manage the end-to-end payroll process for 50–100+ employees (depending on the season), including overtime, prevailing wage rates, and multi-job allocations.
- Compliance: Ensure all federal, state (Colorado), and local tax filings are accurate. Manage W-2 preparation and year-end reporting.
- Certified Payroll: Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for municipal and federally funded (Davis-Bacon) projects.
- Benefits Administration: Manage health insurance enrollments, 401(k) contributions, and PTO tracking.
Construction Accounting & Job Costing
- Job Cost Tracking: Allocate labor, equipment, and material costs to specific project codes to ensure Estimators and Project Managers have accurate "actual vs. estimated" data.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Process subcontractor invoices, verify lien waivers, and assist in the preparation of monthly progress billings.
- Audit Support: Assist in annual workers' comp & GL audits and general financial audits.
- Compliance & Licensing: Maintain business permits and registrations.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 4+ years of accounting experience, specifically within the construction or trades industry.
- Software Mastery: Proficiency in construction-specific accounting software (Sage300CRE) and advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of Job Cost Accounting and Colorado labor laws.
- Attributes: High level of discretion regarding sensitive financial and personnel data; ability to explain complex payroll/benefit information to field staff in a clear, helpful manner.
- Education: Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $60,000 – $95,000 (Based on experience).
- Bonuses: Annual performance-based bonus.
