Frontend Engineering Intern (React / Mapbox / Material UI) – SuperWorld

As a Frontend Engineering Intern, you’ll help bring this vision to life through a beautiful, responsive, and performant web experience.

 

We’re looking for a Frontend Engineering Intern to work on our web application using React, Mapbox, and Material UI. You’ll collaborate with product, design, and engineering to ship features on our global map-based platform and help us deliver an amazing user experience on the web.

This role is ideal for someone who’s passionate about building modern web interfaces, loves maps and geospatial experiences, and wants real-world experience in Web3 / immersive tech.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain React components for the SuperWorld web app

     
  • Implement and refine map-based UIs using Mapbox (layers, markers, popups, filters, custom styles)

     
  • Use Material UI (MUI) to create consistent, responsive layouts and UI patterns

     
  • Collaborate with design to translate Figma/wireframes into clean, reusable components

     
  • Integrate frontend components with backend APIs (REST/GraphQL)

     
  • Optimize for performance, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility

     
  • Help debug, test, and fix UI bugs across different devices and screen sizes

     
  • Contribute to our component library and internal UI standards

     
  • Document components, flows, and best practices for the engineering team

     

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent self-taught/bootcamp experience

     
  • Solid understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript and React

     
  • Experience building responsive layouts with HTML5, CSS3, and modern CSS frameworks

     
  • Hands-on experience (projects or coursework) with at least one of:

    • Mapbox (or similar mapping library like Leaflet)

       
    • Material UI (MUI) or another component library

       
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub and basic collaborative workflows (branches, pull requests)

     
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

     
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, async environment and communicate clearly

     

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Mapbox GL JS (sources, layers, custom markers, clustering)

     
  • Experience with Material UI theming and custom component styling

     
  • Familiarity with Web3 concepts (wallets, NFTs, tokens) or interest in learning

     
  • Experience consuming REST or GraphQL APIs

     
  • Basic knowledge of performance optimization (code splitting, memoization, lazy loading)

     
  • Previous contributions to open source or personal projects you can show us
