About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Intern to assist in reviewing and documenting plumbing systems in our manufacturing facility. This role will involve on-site assessments of piping systems, developing and updating Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and supporting system optimization efforts.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering student interested in mechanical engineering, systems engineering, industrial plumbing, fluid systems, and process engineering to gain hands-on experience in a real-world manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site assessments of existing plumbing, piping, and utility systems.
- Develop and update Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD P&ID, Visio, or other CAD tools.
- Identify and document system components, including pumps, valves, fittings, flow meters, and instrumentation.
- Assist in verifying pipe routing, material selection, and system design compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASME, ISA).
- Work with engineers and maintenance teams to improve system efficiency and documentation.
- Support data collection, flow analysis, and troubleshooting of plumbing issues in the factory.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal use.
Qualifications & Required Skills
- Junior or Senior level student from an ABET Accredited school pursuing a Mechanical, Chemical, Systems, or Industrial Engineering degree.
- Completed coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Piping Design, Thermodynamics, or Process Control.
- Experience with AutoCAD P&ID, SolidWorks, Revit, or similar drafting tools.
- Familiarity with pumps, piping materials, valves, and instrumentation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and plumbing schematics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and conduct on-site inspections in a factory setting.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for documentation and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Hands-on experience with industrial piping, HVAC, or plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of hydraulic modeling software (EPANET, Pipe-Flo, etc.).
- Previous internship or project experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering.
