Communications Manager

The American Economic Liberties Project (Economic Liberties) is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to fighting monopoly power. We combine policy and regulatory expertise with strategic communications, coalition-building, and advocacy campaigns to help ensure policymakers protect workers, small businesses, communities, and democracy from monopolistic corporations to advance economic liberty for all.

Position Summary

Economic Liberties seeks a Communications Manager to join its communications team and the growing movement to protect America’s economy and democracy from concentrated corporate power. Ideal candidates will have exceptional experience working with local, state, and national press, the ability to work quickly and independently, and demonstrated track record of management. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Manage Economic Liberties’ communications team, providing strategic advice and ensuring all communications output aligns with Economic Liberties’ mission and goals.
  • Manage digital communications and communications associates, editing daily social media posts, press releases, and ensuring that tasks like daily clips.
  • Serve as first point of contact for reporter and media requests.
  • Develop and execute sharp, new strategies to build a national narrative around the harms of concentrated economic power and elevate the solutions to combat it.
  • Understand and be willing to respond in rapid response moments that might come at non-traditional work hours.
  • Work with senior staff across departments to develop and execute medium- and long-term strategies including campaigns, rollouts of major products, targeted stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor new, rapidly changing developments related to the government’s efforts to promote competition, regulate corporate power and identify opportunities for Economic Liberties to engage.
  • Synthesize relevant policy and legal developments into accessible, politically minded tactics for a variety of external stakeholders, including advocacy organizations, individual business allies, and grassroots supporters.
  • Project management of research projects through the copyedit, design, and dissemination process.
  • Support the senior team in developing and executing convenings and briefings with a variety of stakeholders to elevate organizational priority issues and campaigns.

Qualifications

  • At least 4-5 years of national political or economic communications experience.
  • Substantial experience building and managing relationships with reporters, as well as working with a variety of stakeholders including advocacy organizations, Hill staff, and others.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and executing effective communications strategies in a timely fashion.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information—like academic research, surveys and statistics, and public policy—into accessible and digestible content for broad and diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with the ability to give and receive timely feedback and edits and manage deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to keep track of multiple tasks, meet competing deadlines, and communicate potential conflicts with colleagues.
  • Experience managing a small team and ensuring the delivery of timely, high-quality products.
  • Enthusiasm for fighting corporate power and corporate special interests.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time exempt position with an annual salary $90,000 - $100,000. This role and compensation may be adjusted to reflect the skills and experience of the successful candidate.American Economic Liberties Project is based in Washington, DC and candidates who are or can relocate to DC will be strongly preferred. Authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available.American Economic Liberties Project provides an excellent compensation and benefits package for all its full-time employees including, but not limited to:
