Architectural Design and Field Assistant
Total House Architecture + Design
Seeking a motivated architecture student or recent graduate to assist with residential design, documentation, and occasional field work on an as-needed basis. This role is well-suited to someone looking for real-world experience working directly with a small practice on active residential projects.
Work hours will vary depending on workload. Some weeks may include 15 to 20 hours, while other weeks may have little or no work. Flexibility and clear communication are essential.
Responsibilities
- Assist with drafting and drawing production in Archicad
- Redline cleanup and drawing coordination
- Help prepare permit and construction document sets
- Develop exterior elevations, sections, and basic details under direction
- Assist with simple design studies or layout options
- Conduct site visits for as-built measurements and documentation
- Take site photos and assist with existing conditions verification
- Help organize drawings, files, and project documentation
All work is completed under the direction and review of the principal.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited architecture program or a recent graduate
- Comfortable with architectural drawings and basic documentation standards
- Experience with Archicad & Twinmotion is preferred, but not required
- Ability to take direction, ask questions, and work independently when appropriate
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Reliable transportation for occasional local site visits
Schedule and Compensation
- Part-time, hourly
- As-needed schedule with variable weekly hours
- Pay based on experience and skill level
Location
- Primarily in-office in Roanoke, Virginia
- Some tasks may be suitable for remote work once onboarded
