Position Title: Teacher Assistant – Early Childhood   

Position located near IUI Campus! (position is part of the Community Work-study program at IUI) This position is limited to IUI Student candidates with a Federal Work-Study award. To verify you have a Federal Work-Study award, please go to your One.IU.edu Account, Student Center, Financial Aid Summary. Hourly Wage: $15.00  

Average Hours/Week: Up to 20hrs

Position Duration: Employment is contingent upon the student maintaining eligibility under the Federal Work-Study, University, and CWS requirements, as well as the availability of their work-study award each semester

  

Office Overview:  

Prosperity Enrichment Inc. is a community-based nonprofit organization serving children and families through early learning and enrichment programs. The Early Childhood Program supports children ages 1–5 by providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. Teacher Assistants support Lead Teachers in maintaining classroom structure, supervising children, and promoting positive early learning experiences.  

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

50% Assist the Lead Teacher in supervising and engaging children ages 1–5 during daily classroom activities, routines, and transitions to ensure safety and structure.  

20% Support implementation of developmentally appropriate lessons, play-based learning, and enrichment activities.  

20% Assist with classroom documentation including attendance, daily activity logs, and incident reports; support communication with families as directed.  

10% Other duties as assigned by the supervisor in support of program goals, licensing standards, and organizational mission.  

  

Tools and Equipment Used:  

Computer (basic data entry and documentation)  

Early childhood classroom materials and learning tools  

Sensory, arts, and play-based supplies  

Cleaning and sanitation supplies

Qualifications:  

Interest in early childhood education or child development  

Experience working with young children preferred but not required  

Dependable, patient, and adaptable  

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Physical Demands:  

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit on the floor for extended periods  

Ability to lift children and classroom supplies up to 40 lbs  

Active participation in classroom routines and activities
