Kindergarten Teacher
About ECDS
Evergreen Country Day School is a PK-8 independent school west of Denver where students grow into confident, curious, and capable learners. Over the past five years, we've grown from 150 to 240+ students by building a school where kids genuinely thrive.
We've been named "Best School" in the area and the top school in Colorado. Faculty members have been recognized as "Best Teacher" for two years running. That's the result of hiring exceptional teachers, giving them the freedom to teach in ways that matter, and building a culture where collaboration and excellence are the norm.
Our teachers work in small classes, alongside supportive colleagues, in a community that values both hard work and joy.
The Role
As our Kindergarten Teacher, you'll welcome students into their formal education journey. This is a year when they discover school as a place of wonder, friendship, and possibility. You'll build the foundation for literacy and numeracy while nurturing social-emotional skills, curiosity, and a love of learning.
You'll create a warm, engaging classroom where 5- and 6-year-olds learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. You'll have the autonomy to design curriculum that meets students where they are and helps them grow at their own pace.
What You'll Do
- Teach foundational skills through play and inquiry: Design lessons in early literacy, math, science, and social studies that honor how young children learn
- Build a nurturing classroom community: Create a safe, joyful environment where children learn to collaborate, solve problems, and develop empathy
- Foster social-emotional development: Help students navigate friendships, manage emotions, and build confidence
- Integrate hands-on learning: Use centers, projects, outdoor time, and experiential activities to engage students
- Partner with families: Communicate regularly about student development and create opportunities for family engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues: Work with PreK and 1st grade teams to ensure smooth transitions and curriculum coherence
- Contribute to school life: Participate in events, committees, and initiatives that strengthen our community
What We're Looking For
- Education: Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- Experience: Kindergarten or early elementary teaching experience
- Philosophy: You believe kindergarteners learn best through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences
- Skills: Deep understanding of early childhood development, emergent literacy, and developmentally appropriate practice
- Character: You're warm, patient, flexible, creative, and genuinely love working with young children
Why ECDS
- Small classes: 12-16 students, allowing you to know each child deeply
- Professional autonomy: Design curriculum and classroom environments that reflect best practices
- Supportive culture: Colleagues who collaborate without competition and leaders who trust teachers
- Professional development: We invest in your growth—pursue interests, attend conferences, develop expertise
- Work-life balance: Reasonable expectations, manageable class sizes, and a culture that values sustainability
