Middle Education Teacher
Title: Middle Education Teacher (5-6)
Reports To: Principal

Summary: The Middle School Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction that supports the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of middle school students. The teacher creates a positive and structured learning environment, monitors student progress, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and administrators to promote student achievement and well-being. To develop and implement an instructional program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each student.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Prepares course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of the district and state.
2. Complies with school and School Board policies and regulations.
3. Demonstrates mastery of the content area and assess student performance using formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.
4. Maintains discipline in the classroom in an effort to maximize learning by implementing classroom management strategies that support positive behavior and student engagement.
5. Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
6. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of students.
7. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
8. Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
9. Works cooperatively with the administration and collegial peers for the overall successful operation of the school.
10. Develops and maintains a physical environment of the classroom conducive to effective learning.
11. Maintains accurate records and reports implemented by the administration.
12. Demonstrates professional growth by participating in professional development, faculty meetings, and school-related activities.
13. Performs other duties as may be assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional Teaching License with the appropriate elementary/middle school endorsement (or be eligible for an approved alternative licensure pathway). Must meet all licensure requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ten month employment. Salary to be determined by the School Board.

Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel
