The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (LACSD) is a public agency dedicated to providing wastewater and solid waste management services throughout Los Angeles County. LACSD relies on modern information technology systems to support business operations, scientific applications, and enterprise-wide data management in service of public health and environmental stewardship.
In this role, you will gain hands-on experience working under the supervision of Programmer Analysts, Systems Analysts, and other information technology professionals on computer programming, application support, and data analysis activities. The intern will assist with the development, maintenance, testing, and documentation of software applications and database solutions that support District business and technical operations.
Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, an interest in computer programming, and the ability to learn and apply programming concepts in a professional environment. This position provides structured exposure to application development practices and is designed to build foundational skills aligned with the Programmer Analyst series.
This paid internship offers practical experience in information technology and computer programming within a public-sector environment, along with mentorship and guidance from experienced IT professionals. Interns will gain exposure to enterprise applications, databases, and development tools, with potential opportunities for future career advancement within the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.
Responsibilities may include:
Assisting with computer programming tasks in support of business, scientific, or technical applications.
Supporting the development, maintenance, and revision of application code under supervision.
Assisting with the creation and execution of test cases, test data, and basic test programs.
Supporting report development and data retrieval activities.
Assisting with the creation and execution of relational database queries and basic stored procedures.
Supporting application maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution activities.
Assisting with documentation of program logic, technical procedures, and application changes.
Supporting the application development lifecycle, including analysis, development, testing, and implementation phases.
Working with version control systems and development tools in a team-based environment, as applicable.
Performing related duties as assigned under the direction of IT staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Eligibility:
- Maintain student status through summer or fall enrollment at an accredited college or university in Computer Science or Information Systems;
- Be available to work full time for at least twelve weeks during normal business hours in the summer (Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.);
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0;
- Possess a valid California Class C driver license (or an equivalent driver's license issued by a state or territory within the United States).

The selection process will begin with a review of applications to ensure candidates meet the minimum qualifications. The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the selection process.
Interviews are expected to begin in January/February 2026 and will continue periodically until all positions are filled. Notifications of placement are anticipated in March/April.
All recommended candidates must successfully complete a background process, which includes submitting official transcripts, completing a conviction questionnaire, review of DMV records, and a pre-employment drug screening.
