POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Automotive Technology Teacher
Reports To: Principal
FSLA: Exempt
Summary: The High School Auto Mechanics (Automotive Technology) Teacher provides classroom and hands-on instruction to students in automotive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair. The teacher prepares students for entry-level employment, post-secondary education, and industry certifications while ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties maybe assigned
- Instruct students in automotive systems, including engine performance, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical/electronic systems, HVAC, and preventative maintenance
- Deliver hands-on shop instruction using industry-standard tools and diagnostic equipment
- Emphasize safety procedures and OSHA-aligned shop practices
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards
- Assess student learning through practical demonstrations, written assessments, and performance-based evaluations
- Maintain shop equipment, tools, materials, and inventory
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., ASE Student Certification)
- Manage classroom and shop behavior to ensure a productive learning environment
- Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and CTE staff
Participate in professional development and industry training as required
Education and Certification Requirements
- Valid state teaching license with an Automotive Technology or Career and Technical Education (CTE) endorsement, or eligibility for licensure
- Demonstrated experience in automotive repair and diagnostics
- Industry certifications (ASE preferred)
Ability to meet state and division licensure and background requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of automotive systems and diagnostic procedures
- Ability to operate and instruct students in the use of shop tools and equipment
- Effective classroom and shop management skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Commitment to student safety and career readiness

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ten-month employment. Salary to be determined by the School Board.
EVALUATION
Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
