Emerging Tech Education & Innovation Intern (Data, Design, & Development)
About The Coding School:
The Coding School (TCS) is a global leader in emerging tech education, including Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data. We’re focused on training the future workforce by providing educational opportunities, training, mentorship, and community programming for K-16 students and educators, professionals, and workforce development. Offerings range from small-sized programs, such as K-12 classroom workshops, to large-scale courses for 2,000+ participants. To date, TCS has taught more than 60,000 individuals from 130 countries.
Objective:
TCS has exciting opportunities this summer for interns to make direct impact on students from underserved communities. During our summer internship, you will have the opportunity to learn and contribute across a variety of areas, which may include helping to develop emerging technologies projects for high school students; providing support to help guide students in conducting research, developing skills, and their projects; strategizing and conducting data analysis on program effectiveness; summer program management; web & UX/UI projects, graphic design, mini animated games and curriculum development for projects or workshops in fields such as quantum, AI, data science, photonics, biotech and semiconductors.
Through this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience inside a leading international STEM education organization, developing a deep understanding of its operations and impact. You’ll also learn best practices for effectively delivering technical programming to students from underserved communities and diverse backgrounds, equipping them with high-quality, inclusive training in emerging technologies.
Scope of Work May Include:
- Analyze and Communicate Insights: Conduct data analysis on course and program results to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement, creating visual reports and dashboards to support staff, funders, and stakeholders.
- Develop and Implement Evaluation Tools: Design and deploy pre- and post-surveys to measure program outcomes, ensuring data aligns with organizational goals, grant objectives, and can be used for continuous improvement.
- Enhance Learning Experience: Contribute to curriculum projects by developing short workshops/incorporating interactive elements such as mini animated games or multimedia resources that improve student engagement.
- Leading Lab Sections or Support Student Research Project Building: TCS is the recipient of federal grants that aim to equip underserved high school students with data science, AI & quantum computing skills and then conduct research in those areas. Interns may work with students directly in instructional skill building labs and/or research support sessions. If intern works directly with students, they would need to complete two online trainings prior to the internship.
- Learning & Assisting with Program Planning, Management, & Execution: Intern may have the unique opportunity to develop emerging tech program management skills which may include helping to develop program materials for students, TAs, and mentors; coordinating student, instructor, mentor schedules and orientations; providing student and stakeholder support via email communications; and other programmatic functions for impactful program execution.
-
Strengthen Digital Presence: Support website development through UX/UI design, front-end coding, and the integration of design features or educational and animated games.
- Apply Emerging Tech Knowledge: Where applicable, apply skills in AI, data science, quantum computing, biotech, photonics, or semiconductors to enhance TCS’s learning materials, develop curriculum for workshops or student projects.
- API Data Integration: Enhancing TCS data systems to help facilitate effective data flow between platforms.
Project Dependent Skills:
- Technical Proficiency: Tech skills preferred: data science and AI. Any of the following are pluses: quantum computing, biotech, photonics, semiconductors (micro electronics/chips).
- Data Analysis Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools. Ability to interpret data trends and make data-driven recommendations based on their analyses (while working with applicable staff.)
- UX/UI Skills: User experience & implementation skillset and experience for website, projects and interactive workshops to enhance student/user engagement. Front-end development skills would be a plus
- Design Animation Skills: Skills to develop mini animated educational games that could go onto a website, in K-12 PD materials, or workshops for students. Front-end development skills would be a plus (HTML/CSS, JS, React)
- Graphic Design: Graphic design experience and skills that could primarily be used for enhancing educational student-facing materials and curricula or external partner or participant materials.
- API Data Integration: Knowledge and experience of data flow and integration across platforms.
- Critical Thinking: A critical thinking ability is necessary for evaluating processes, suggesting improvements, and producing quality work. The intern should approach challenges thoughtfully and analytically.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial for managing data and documentation accurately. This ensures high-quality output in all tasks.
