Mortgage Program Intern​ – Job Description

Position Title: Mortgage Program Intern

Reports to: START Team Manager
Pay Grade: Hourly
Status: Regular, Part Time, Internship
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY &PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The START Team Intern is a part of Gold Star’s cross training program. The purpose of the program is to educate new hires on the operational side of the mortgage lending industry. This program will provide a variety of learning experiences across multiple departments within our corporate office. Interns will gain a foundational understanding of internal processes and support functions through real-time learning experiences across multiple corporate departments.

Individuals will have the opportunity to transition into the following but not limited to these operational departments: Closing; Post-Closing; Underwriting; Re-Disclosure; and Lock Desk.

PRIMARY POSITION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a strong understanding of the mortgage loan process and lending industry guidelines
  • Provide timely, professional customer service support via phone and email
  • Monitor and manage user credentials and access levels for internal systems and web portals
  • Learn and adhere to Gold Star’s policies, procedures, and industry best practices
  • Participate in department cross-training and job shadowing opportunities
  • Support various departments by assisting with overflow tasks and special projects
  • Track and follow up on internal service requests and departmental assignments
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in process improvement or customer service
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
  • Dependable and proactive in meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Business, Finance, IT, or related field
  • Previous experience in the mortgage lending industry a plus
  • Familiarity with Encompass 360 and web-based user portals a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT

The environment is characteristic of an office setting. Must be able to execute complex tasks on time sensitive transactions and be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
