Dishwasher and Maintenance Person
The Pequot Inn is a seasonal restaurant on Fishers Island, NY operating from May through October, with a “peak” season in June/July/August. Dates of exact employment can range; that is, be tailored to your availability as we can flexible for the right applicant. We are looking to hire a full-time Dishwasher and Maintenance person. The job is on-site here on Fishers Island as such would require a primarily full-time location commitment with the exception of scheduled and/or manager approved time off. Housing is provided for this position free of charge.
Dishwashers are responsible for removal of food waste, the cleaning and putting away of all dishes, pots and glassware been used in the dining room and bar area. General cleanliness of the kitchen area, sweeping and mopping floors, emptying garbage and various other duties related to your facilitation of kitchen operations.
Some skills beneficial to the job would be time management, ability to lift and move perhaps sometimes heavy pieces, communication skills, the ability to work within a team and observe ways in which operations could be improved through teamwork and motivation or streamlining of systems.
The Maintenance portion of this position includes but is not limited to helping with disposal of trash and recycling, some landscaping, general hands on work to repair or maintain equipment, furniture, or perhaps minor utilities within the housing above the restaurant. Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, or mechanics would be a huge help however none of this is mandatory. Basically, we are looking for someone to get in where they fit in and help all systems outside of restaurant hours.
Additionally, a driver's license would be preferred to help with logistics when not working a typical service shift. This would entail delivery and receipt of goods, delivery of recycling, rubbish, and food compost, and occasionally removal of bulk debris or equipment.
All hours between duties will average between 35-40 hrs. weekly, with overtime available paid in accordance with NY regulations. Pay is based on experience and willingness to train/learn new skills, with a mid-season performance bonus after evaluation from management.
