Math Camp Counselor
Epsilon Camp, a two-week residential summer program for highly gifted 7-12 year olds passionate about math, is seeking undergraduate or graduate students of mathematics to fill positions of Camp Counselor. The ideal candidate is someone who is both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about mathematics, who is excited about working with children, and who can be depended upon to keep a group of campers safe, supervised, and engaged.
Compensation for this position will be a base salary of $2500, room and board, and travel expenses to and from camp. Epsilon Camp 2026 will run from Sunday, July 19 to Sunday, August 2 on the campus of Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Counselors must be on site from Thursday, July 16 to Monday, August 3.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise an assigned group of campers throughout the day
- Provide classroom support for the faculty during class and office hours
- Organize and lead groups of campers in mathematical play and other activities
- Recognize and respond to needs of campers, proactively address concerns
- Provide feedback on students' behavior and performance to faculty and staff
- Be a positive role model
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate student studying mathematics
- Excitement for mathematics, and talent for working with very bright young students
- Excellent character, integrity, dependability, adaptability, time/stress management
- Positive energy level for early morning that is maintained throughout the long day
- Ability to communicate, work well with others, and solve problems
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. (citizen or resident alien)

- CV listing education and experience; include a list of college-level math courses, completed or underway, as well as any experience working with children
- Names, positions/institutions, and email addresses of three references; at least one reference should be someone who knows you mathematically (a university math professor is strongly preferred), and at least one should be someone who knows you outside of mathematics (for example, someone who supervised you while you were working with children)
Recommendations:
- Please ask your references to send recommendation letters directly to jobs@epsiloncamp.org, to be received by the application deadline. If not all of your recommenders are able to provide letters by the deadline, or if some of them prefer giving references over the phone, please indicate so in your cover letter.
- Recommendation letters are most helpful if they can speak to both your knowledge and excitement for mathematics, as well as the qualities that make you a good fit for the camp counselor position and working with children. We do not expect every recommender to know you in both of these capacities, but both areas should be addressed through recommendation letters.
Use, or possession with the intent to use, of drugs, including any form of marijuana, is strictly prohibited while employed by Epsilon Camp. Use, or possession with the intent to use, of tobacco or alcohol is not permitted while on duty or on class days, or on evenings or nights preceding class days. This includes the use, or possession with the intent to use, of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and all vapes/vaporizers. Employees must never work under the influence of any controlled substance that has not been medically prescribed to them.
Our contract with the University does not allow Epsilon Camp participants to serve, furnish, sell, or consume alcohol on campus grounds. In addition, smoking and all tobacco related products are prohibited in all University owned facilities and on all University owned grounds. Employees of Epsilon Camp must abide by Utah State University’s alcohol and drug policies.
