Automotive Systems & Applications Engineer Intern - Summer 2026
Job Summary
- Create evaluation and demonstration hardware and software solutions to showcase the value and innovation of NXP’s automotive processors
- Solve customer system design issues throughout all stages of the customer product development cycle (conception through production). Provide responsive and thorough hardware and software technical support to enable successful launch and production of customer systems.
- Create compelling technical documentation and training material to enable customer development and to support marketing efforts to position NXP as a thought leader in embedded automotive applications
- Perform simulation and benchmarking of existing MCUs and virtual prototypes – to guide the development of customer products and the specification of future products
Key Challenges
- Stay ahead of the automotive industry, developing and demonstrating innovative networking and vehicle dynamics system solutions that showcase the value of NXP automotive processors
- Develop advanced embedded software and solutions that highlight the value of NXP’s heterogenous, multi-core automotive processors and optimizes the use of embedded accelerators and multiple OS environments within a hypervisor solution
Cross functional aspects
- Provide customer input and competitive intelligence to marketing, product definition engineers and hardware/software developers to optimize NXP’s processors and software enablement for customer automotive applications
- Work with marketing, product and test engineering, and hardware/software development teams to enable the successful launch of new automotive processors
- Support technical queries from field applications engineers, sales engineers and the marketing team
Job Qualifications
- Candidate is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- Knowledge of embedded systems hardware and software design, specifically with ARM architectures. Experience with NXP microcontrollers or microprocessors is a plus.
- Embedded programming skills: C/C++ and low-level embedded assembly software
- Board level schematic and layout understanding
- Experience with laboratory tools: logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, LabView, etc.
- Experience with compilers, debuggers, emulators, RTOS (Real Time Operating Systems) and system debugging techniques
- Working knowledge of communications protocols, such as LIN, CAN, Ethernet, PCIe is a plus
- Knowledge of model-based design techniques, experience with MATLAB/Simulink, is a plus
- Knowledge of electric motor control theory and principles is a plus
- Must have very strong English communications skills (oral and written)
