Junior Loan Officer

AFC Mortgage Group started in a family home with one simple belief: when you truly understand the mortgage process and take ownership of it, everyone wins. Today, we’re a multi-state, full-service lender headquartered in Fairfield County — and we’re just getting started.

Our mission is bold: become the #1 purchase lender in Connecticut and build a nationally respected mortgage platform known for education, communication, and execution. We invest heavily in people, training, and culture, because great companies are built by great teammates.

If you’re competitive, driven, and excited to learn a high-impact skill set that blends finance, sales, and real estate — this is your chance to get in early, grow fast, and build a real career.

Role Overview

The Junior Loan Officer is an entry level role. It is borrower-facing, sales-adjacent role responsible for follow-up, communication continuity, and pipeline hygiene. This role supports senior Loan Officers while actively developing origination skills and building a personal book of business.

This is a growth role with a clear path to becoming a full Loan Officer.

  • Pre-screen borrowers on goals, timeline, and basic financial picture
  • Book qualified consultations on senior Loan Officer calendars
  • Nurture long-term prospects who are not yet ready to transact

Mortgage Plans & Pre-Approvals

  • Update mortgage scenarios when rates, borrower information, or strategy changes
  • Prepare revised mortgage plans and pre-approval letters for senior LO approval
  • Ensure all borrower numbers and assumptions are current and accurate

Application Review & Documentation

  • Review loan applications for completeness and consistency
  • Proactively request and follow up on required documentation
  • Identify and escalate potential red flags early

Pre-Approved Buyer Support

  • Maintain regular touchpoints with active pre-approved buyers
  • Proactively reach out before weekends to confirm buyers are ready to view homes
  • Update numbers for specific properties as needed
  • Escalate offer strategy conversations to senior LOs

Weekly Borrower Communication

  • Deliver consistent Tuesday loan status updates to buyers in process
  • Coordinate internally with processors and underwriters prior to borrower communication
  • Ensure borrowers clearly understand where their loan stands and what’s next

Past Client Outreach & Database Management

  • Proactively check in with past clients
  • Educate clients on refinance, rate improvement, and equity-access opportunities
  • Identify and surface opportunities for senior LO review or approval

Pipeline Development (Personal Production)

  • Work self-sourced leads and assigned entry-level deals
  • Gradually take ownership of clean, lower-complexity files with oversight
  • Shadow senior LOs on client and agent conversations

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a processor
  • Not an underwriter
  • Not a solo-producing Loan Officer (initially)
  • Not responsible for pricing exceptions or final strategy decisions

Qualifications

Required

  • 1–3 years of experience in mortgage, real estate, banking, sales, or client-facing financial services OR recent college graduate
  • Strong communication skills and comfort with outbound calls
  • High level of organization and follow-up discipline
  • Coachable mindset and desire to learn mortgage guidelines and structure

Preferred

  • NMLS license (or willingness to obtain quickly)
  • CRM experience
  • Mortgage or real estate transaction exposure

Compensation & Growth Path

  • Competitive base salary
  • Overrides tied to senior LO production support
  • Commission on self-sourced loans (lower than full LO)
  • Clear, defined path to full Loan Officer compensation and role

What Success Looks Like

  • Leads are followed up with quickly and consistently
  • Borrowers feel informed, confident, and supported
  • Files move smoothly from application to close
  • Senior LOs gain time leverage
  • A personal pipeline is actively being built

Why This Role at AFC

  • Learn from experienced producers in a high-integrity environment
  • Develop real origination skills—not just admin work
  • Clear expectations, structure, and advancement path
  • Opportunity to grow into a full Loan Officer role

If you’re proactive, detail-oriented, and excited to build a long-term career in mortgage lending, we’d love to talk.
