Studio Engineer – D Productions Studio
Location: 1900 N. Austin, Chicago, Illinois
Pay: $25.00 per hour, plus free studio time for personal projectslibrary​

D Productions Studio is a creative recording space located at 1900 N. Austin in Chicago. The studio engineer will work with upcoming music artists to record, shape, and refine their sound in a professional studio environment. This role is ideal for a college student who wants hands‑on experience in audio engineering while building a portfolio.library​

Expected responsibilities

Set up microphones, audio interfaces, headphones, and other studio equipment for recording sessions with artists.library​

Operate the digital audio workstation (DAW) to record vocals and instruments.

Monitor levels and sound quality during sessions, making adjustments as needed.

Save, organize, and back up sessions and audio files after each recording.

Provide basic editing and rough mixes (comping takes, cleaning up tracks, basic EQ and compression).

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming studio environment for artists.

Communicate clearly with artists about session flow, breaks, and expectations.

Specific skills we’re looking for

Basic experience with at least one DAW (Pro Tools, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Ableton Live, Reaper, or similar).

Understanding of signal flow, gain staging, and recording fundamentals.

Familiarity with microphones and basic mic placement for vocals and instruments.

Strong attention to detail and willingness to troubleshoot technical issues.

Good communication skills and ability to work respectfully with artists of different styles and backgrounds.

Minimum requirements

Current college student or recent graduate with interest in audio engineering, music production, or related field.

Reliable transportation to 1900 N. Austin, Chicago, Illinois, for in‑person sessions.

Availability for sessions that may take place on evenings or weekends.

Punctual, dependable, and able to follow studio policies and instructions.

Perks and compensation

Hourly pay of $25.00 per hour.

Free use of the studio for the student’s personal recording projects outside of booked client sessions (scheduled in advance).

Opportunity to build a portfolio by working with a variety of upcoming music artists.
