OHSU Biomedical Informatics & Data Science Internship Program

The OHSU Division of Informatics, Clinical Epidemiology, and Translational Data Science (DICE) will be hosting its College Undergraduate and Graduate Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Internship Program again in the summer of 2026.  These internships provide full-time experiences in biomedical informatics and data science to college undergraduates to increase their knowledge and skills in these areas.  The program’s goals are to provide exposure to biomedical informatics and data science with respect to best practices, impact of research on medicine and health, as well as possible graduate study and career paths.  In addition to  participation in a faculty-led research project, the experience will include:

  • Knowledge of the motivations, activities, and challenges for biomedical informatics and data science
  • Skills development in data science through the use of standard data sets and tools
  • Training in responsible conduct of research
  • Student-led and faculty-facilitated health data ethics seminar

In addition to carrying out research projects under the supervision of a faculty mentor, summer interns will participate in weekly didactic classes, participate in a health data ethics seminar, and attend a weekly informatics research conference.

The overarching goal of this summer program is to support educational activities and encourage undergraduates to pursue further studies or careers in biomedical informatics and data science research.

This College Undergraduate and Graduate Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Internship Program is funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Library of Medicine, R25LM014207.

Due to the funding agency requirements, this program is open to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

Short term experience – summer quarter. 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks, Open to undergraduate and graduate students.
