Position Title: Collections Intern
Organization: Hellenic Heritage Museum of Maryland
Location: 25 West Preston Street, Baltimore MD 21201 and remote work (hybrid)
Hours: 5–10 hours per week, including most Thursdays from 10:30 -1 at the museum.
Compensation: $15/hour (hourly stipend)
Start Date: As soon as possible

The Hellenic Heritage Museum of Maryland seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Collections Intern to support the care, documentation, and accessibility of the museum’s collections. This internship offers hands-on experience in collections management, preventive conservation, exhibition support, and collections-based research within a cultural heritage institution focused on the Greek and Hellenic diaspora.
The intern will work closely with museum staff to ensure accurate collections records, proper storage and preservation practices, and meaningful access to collections for researchers and the public.
Responsibilities
Collections Management & Documentation
- Maintain and update collections records in the museum’s collections management system.
- Assist with cataloging objects, including accessioning, descriptive metadata, and condition notes.
- Photograph collection objects for documentation and digital use.
- Update and prepare collections-related content for the museum’s website and digital platforms.
Care & Preservation
- Assist with oversight of collections storage areas.
- Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) to support preventive conservation efforts.
Exhibition Support
- Support curators and exhibition designers with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
- Assist in ensuring artifact stability, safe handling, and security during exhibition activities.
Research & Access
- Facilitate access to collections for researchers, students, and other approved users.
- Support donor relations by helping manage object documentation and related correspondence.
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, in museum studies, art history, history, anthropology, archaeology, library/information science, or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle museum objects carefully and follow collections handling procedures.
- Basic photography skills and comfort working with digital files preferred.
- Interest in Hellenic history, culture, or heritage is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small museum environment.
