Position Overview

A elementary school teacher is responsible for creating a stimulating educational environment for young children, typically ages 5-10, that fosters their academic, social, and emotional development. This role involves planning and implementing a curriculum that meets state educational standards, managing the classroom, and collaborating with parents and colleagues to ensure each child's success.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction

  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and materials to meet the needs and interests of all students.
  • Integrate subjects such as math, reading, science, and social studies into daily activities.
  • Incorporate play-based learning to promote social and emotional growth.

Classroom Management

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Manage classroom resources, including materials and equipment.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Monitor and assess students' academic and social progress through observations, tests, and formal assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and development.
  • Provide regular feedback to students and parents through progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience, especially in early childhood education, is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to develop engaging lesson plans that meet diverse learning needs.
    • Creativity and resourcefulness in teaching methods.
    • Patience, compassion, and a passion for working with young children.

Working Conditions

  • Hours: Part and full-time, typically during afternoons and weekends during the school year, with occasional evenings or weekends for meetings, events, or professional development. During summer, there will also be full-day summer camps for K-2nd Grade students.
  • Environment: Work is performed in a classroom setting. May involve standing for long periods and some physical activity, such as playing with children or setting up classroom materials.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive salary based on experience and education level. Range is $30 to $45 an hour.
