Middle School Principal

Middle School Principal Position. Must reside in the Independence School District Boundaries.  4 day per week calendar

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate certification
  • Masters Degree or higher
  • Administrative experience preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

REPORTS TO:

  • Assistant Superintendent / grade level

 

JOB GOAL:

  • To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school
  • Leads in the development and monitoring of the instructional program to promote the success of all students
  • Promotes a culture and use of data to drive decision-making in all areas (academic, behavioral, social-emotional)
  • Maintains high standards of student and staff conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to process rights
  • Creates positive and productive relationships with students, families, staff and district stakeholders and is active in attending and supporting school and district functions
  • Works flexibly and professionally with all district departments and Central Office administrative staff 
  • Attends to the supervision and evaluation of all assigned staff by meeting district timelines, adhering to HR processes, providing constructive evaluation feedback and intervening early using appropriate levels of support to staff needing improvement
  • Creates and maintains all necessary building schedules to promote learning and maximize instructional time
  • Prepares and administers the school budget and supervises school finances ethically and per district processes
  • Provides for regular inventories of school property and for the security and accountability of that property
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate educational records while following expected district processes
  • Assists in recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning, training and evaluating the school’s staff 
  • Assimilates and appropriately prioritizes the support needs of all newly assigned staff members
  • Communicates professionally and effectively with supervisor, district and building staff, students, families and stakeholder groups
  • Keeps supervisor informed of events and activities of any unusual nature as well as routine matters that are expected or requested
  • Plans and supervises the emergency preparedness program and all related drills, duties and communications
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school site and supervises all activities and extracurricular programs
  • Seeks appropriate professional growth activities for staff to support the School Improvement Process 
  • Seeks appropriate professional growth activities in order to continue to develop as a leader and to keep abreast of changes and developments within the profession
  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Ten or eleven month year
  • Salary and work year to be established by the Board

 

EVALUATION:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
