Public Health Nurse - Personal Health Services

** This position is referral bonus eligible **

 


 

As a key member of the multidisciplinary team within the Community Clinical Services Division of the Kent County Health Department, the Registered Nurse will:


 

Conduct comprehensive assessments by obtaining personal and medical histories, performing physical evaluations, and administering appropriate testing.

Provide screening, testing, treatment, and counseling for communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV, following evidence-based protocols and public health guidelines.

Deliver individualized client education on disease prevention, risk reduction, and health promotion.

Participate in epidemiological follow-up for reportable communicable diseases in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Document all services accurately and timely in electronic health records, maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and department policies.

Collaborate with physicians, social workers, case managers, and other health professionals to coordinate comprehensive care plans for clients.

Engage with clients in a culturally competent, respectful, and professional manner, ensuring services are equitable and accessible to diverse cultural and socio-economic.

Attend and participate in departmental trainings, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing public health education.

Occasional travel to various community and clinic sites within Kent County to deliver services may be needed.

 

Work hours are Monday through Friday, with adjusted hours of 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.

2026 Starting Wages: 
$32.61- A Step: Associate Degree in Nursing with 36 months or less experience as a Registered Nurse.
$33.81 - B Step: Associate Degree in Nursing with 37 months to 60 months of experience as a Registered Nurse.
$35.30- C Step: Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 36 months or less of experience as a Registered Nurse; or Associate Degree in Nursing with 61 months or more of experience as a Registered Nurse.
$36.46 - D Step: Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 37 months or more experience as a Registered Nurse. 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Graduated from a National League of Nursing-accredited nursing program.

Current and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in testing, treating, and educating patients regarding sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV is preferred.

HIV certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Ability to interact professionally, respectfully, and effectively with clients, colleagues, and community members from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Bilingual candidates preferred.  

Proven ability to provide culturally competent, client-centered care in compliance with HIPAA and public health best practices.

Must possess a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation to provide services across various locations in Kent County.
