Social Services Specialist

Oswego County Social Services has immediate openings for Social Services Specialists

to work with individuals and households within our community by assessing need and determining eligibility for, various programs administered by the Oswego County Department of Social Services. Staff participate in a team-based management process to assist the customer in identifying alternatives to dependence on assistance.  Depending on team assignment, this work supports various duties involving program eligibility, categorical classification, case management, employment assessment, individualized goal planning and community referrals, supportive service coordination, advocacy and identification of available resources.  The work involves direct interviews with vulnerable populations and the review, investigation and evaluation of applications and records

Qualifications: Completion of 60 semester credit hours; OR Two (2) years of experience in examining, investigating, or evaluating claims for assistance, veteran's or unemployment benefits, insurance, or a similar program operating under established criteria for eligibility. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

This title has been approved to be filled without the need to take an exam for a limited period through the HELP Program. Candidates appointed permanently to this title will NOT need to take an exam and will remain in their position even when the HELP program ends. 

Pay Rate: $26.27 per hour plus competitive benefits package including: health, life, dental and vision insurance; NYS Retirement; and Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
