Plant Health Intern

OBJECTIVE / ACCOUNTABILITY

The Plant Health Intern will gain hands-on experience in horticulture, plant health, and applied research. This role supports the identification and management of plant insects and diseases, soil and fertility practices, and cultural trials while contributing to ongoing research and development projects.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Pest and Disease Management

  • Learn to identify key pests and diseases of woody and herbaceous perennials and groundcovers.
  • Assist in monitoring all crops for disease and insect pressure.
  • Support in degree day recordkeeping and related plant health tracking.
  • Research and development of new cultural methods, pesticides and equipment.
  • Follow all company safety guidelines. 

Horticultural Assistance

  • Collect and record ED and pH data across Illinois nurseries.
  • Assist with production trialing, including the capture of pertinent photographs, collecting data, and completing documents that outline processes and results..

Collaboration and Support

  • Cross train and assist other departments as needed.
  • Communicate horticultural findings effectively with team members.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Student must be enrolled in an associates or bachelors program in a related field of study.
  • Horticulture knowledge preferred.
  • Entomology and plant pathology knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to lift 50lb
