Position Summary
LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans is seeking a highly motivated Research Manager to support and advance the mission of the Neuroscience Center of Excellence. Reporting directly to the Center Director, the Research Manager will play a key leadership role in developing, coordinating, and sustaining a comprehensive neuroscience research program.
The Research Manager will be responsible for securing external funding, implementing grant-sponsored research initiatives, overseeing all aspects of laboratory operations, managing laboratory personnel, and contributing to scholarly publications. The incumbent will collaborate closely with both senior and junior research faculty and will assist with grant writing, manuscript preparation, and overall research program development. In addition, the Research Manager will teach and mentor postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students engaged in neuroscience research.
Research within the Neuroscience Center focuses on understanding brain and retinal function, as well as the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases. The Research Manager will help ensure the development and maintenance of a robust, effective, and well-coordinated research enterprise in these areas.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Medical Technology, or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of research experience within a comprehensive research program
Substitutions:
- Master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of required experience
- PhD may substitute for 5 years of required experience
Key Responsibilities
- Secure and manage external research funding
- Implement and oversee grant-sponsored research programs
- Supervise laboratory operations and manage research personnel
- Collaborate with faculty on research projects, grant proposals, and publications
- Assist senior and junior investigators in obtaining funding and publishing research
- Mentor and teach postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students
- Support the strategic growth of neuroscience research focused on brain function, retinal biology, and neurodegenerative diseases
