Accounting Intern

MUST SIT AT ASHLAND, VA OFFICE - NOT A REMOTE POSITION

JRP Energy is headquartered in Ashland, VA, with company vehicles operating in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Fairfax, Norfolk, Richmond, and Roanoke.

Position Summary

JRP Energy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to support the Accounting and Finance team during a period of system integration and process improvement. This part-time internship is ideal for a college student currently pursuing an Accounting degree who is looking to gain hands-on, real-world accounting experience in a fast-paced environment.

The internship is expected to last a minimum of two (2) months, with the possibility of extension based on business needs and performance.

Schedule & Work Hours

Part-time position

Flexible schedule within normal business hours (Monday–Friday)

Preference for candidates who can work a few hours each day

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

Assist with reconciliations of balance sheet accounts

Match receipts to credit card statements and ensure proper coding

Accounts Payable

Reconcile fuel vendor invoices with Bills of Lading (BOLs) and Purchase Orders in the accounting system

Partner with Operations and Billing teams to research and resolve invoice discrepancies

Cash Management

Match banking transactions against bank activity throughout the month

Monitor outstanding items and notify appropriate departments of transactions not clearing in a timely manner

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in Accounting (required)

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Basic understanding of accounting principles

Proficient with Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting systems is a plus

Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism

Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate across departments
