Head Cheerleading Coach

Reports to: High School Activities Director

General Summary:
In accordance with district policies and procedures, the head cheerleading coach should promote the type of sportsmanship that will help students acquire the basic attributes of good citizenship. He or she should develop a wholesome school spirit and loyalty to their school and team regardless of the outcome of the contest. The coach should also promote a cooperative spirit between the student body, the faculty, and the school administration and help their school achieve the most worthwhile educational objectives through the interscholastic activities program.

Essential Functions:
1) To be responsible for the information contained in the Student Activities Program Procedures Guide and the implementation of the policies/procedures/goals therein.

2) Complete MSHSAA rules meeting as required.

3) Organize, schedule, and assign a coach to attend all practices.

4) Supervise the fitting and ordering of uniforms.

5) Supervise cheerleaders or assign appropriate supervision at all high school home football games, basketball games, pep rallies and other home activities to which cheerleaders are assigned. Varsity sponsor will attend away activities to which cheerleaders are assigned.

6) Organize, plan, and supervise camps and clinics.

7) Preparation for regional and state cheer competitions and supervision.

8) Responsible for discipline and monitoring compliance with eligibility.

9) Organize, plan and supervise cheerleading tryouts.

10) Organize, plan and supervise all fundraising projects and budget in coordination with the Activities Director.

11) Submit to the Activities Office a report including:

a) List of members

b) Awards or honors received

c) Summary of activities

d) Recommendations for improvement
 

Compensation:

  1. The assignment is an annual appointment.
  2. A stipend will be paid for the fulfillment of the assigned responsibilities.


Qualifications:

  1. Certification – Missouri Teaching Certificate or MSHSAA approved coaches' education program.
  2. Experience desired – Prior experience as a cheerleading sponsor is preferred.
  3. Other requirements – Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education. Understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
  4. Physical Requirements/Environmental ConditionsRequires prolonged sitting and standing; requires stooping, bending, reaching and lifting; requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials; must work in stressful and hectic environments; requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; may require some travel; requires physical and emotional endurance; must be able to work long and irregular hours; and requires regular and consistent attendance and physical presence at the job.
