Pavement Systems Engineer I: $22.50/hour - $30.02/hour

Pavement Systems Engineer II: $25.40/hour - $34.14/hour

Pavement Systems Engineer III: $28.74/hour - $38.85/hour

 

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Materials and Research has a full-time vacancy for a Pavement Systems Engineer I – III.

 

*SUMMARY:

PAVEMENT SYSTEMS ENGINEER I:

To develop, update, coordinate information, and maintain reporting systems in the area of pavement management and the Department’s Pavement Management System. To perform professional engineering tasks in planning, estimating, evaluating, and designing bituminous pavements used on Department of Transportation projects. 

PAVEMENT SYSTEMS ENGINEER II:

To develop, update, coordinate information, and maintain reporting systems in the area of pavement management and the Department’s Pavement Management System. To perform professional engineering tasks in planning, estimating, evaluating, and designing bituminous pavements used on Department of Transportation projects. 

PAVEMENT SYSTEMS ENGINEER III:

To develop, update, coordinate information, and maintain reporting systems in the area of pavement management and the Department’s Pavement Management System. To perform professional engineering tasks in planning, estimating, evaluating, and designing bituminous pavements used on Department of Transportation projects. 

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. 

 

PAVEMENT SYSTEMS ENGINEER I MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: No experience required.

OR

Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience: Two (2) years of post-graduate experience in an engineering comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license

Other Requirements: The applicant's Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

Trainee Option: Not applicable

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the development and operation of computer databases. Experience in Access, Excel, Oracle, SQL Server, and ArcGIS.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: None

CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Criteria: Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (NCEES) (17205001-IBA-01) 

For the in-band advancement to be applied, the eligibility requirements in Per 303.09 In-Band Advancement must be satisfied, as well as the following criteria: 

Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam through the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

Broad Group Level Advancement Available: ☒ Yes ☐ No

Criteria: 17-2050 Civil Engineers Level 1 to Level 2 (17205001-BGA-01) 

For promotion from 17-2050 Civil Engineers-1 job title to 17-2050 Civil Engineers-2, job title the eligibility requirements in Per 303.08 Broad Group Level Advancement must be satisfied.

 

PAVEMENT SYSTEMS ENGINEER II MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: No experience required.

OR

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of post baccalaureate experience engineering.

OR

Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of experience in engineering at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher), plus two (2) additional years' experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license

Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the Department of Transportation.

Trainee Option: Not applicable

Experience: Four (4) years of post-baccalaureate experience in the practice of engineering.

OR

Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in engineering at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher), plus two (2) additional years of experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license

1. Evidence of passing Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

*RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

PAVEMENT SYSTEMS ENGINEER I:

Supports the development and maintenance of the Pavement Management System software and associated database.

Inputs and evaluates data, develops and documents operating procedures, and generates reports and maps from the Pavement Management System for the Department.

Coordinates data acquisition from other departmental databases and other sources of information for use in the Pavement Management System.

Coordinates and documents the as-built resurfacing program for the Department.

Assists in the maintenance of Pavement Management roadway condition data by preparing collection files, downloading data, post-processing data, backing up data, and resolving system issues related to this process.

Performs software development and troubleshooting related to the Pavement Management roadway data collection vehicle and workstations and provides a liaison with the software vendor.

Coordinates with and trains Department personnel and Department consultants on the implementation and use of the Pavement Management roadway data system software.

Assists in the designs of pavement structure, including base courses, using professional engineering principles. Computes structure layer thickness, including pavement type and thickness, consistent with current design practice.

Conducts field inspections and manages field exploration programs to determine the conditions of existing pavements and their supporting structure. Investigates pavement related roadway problems, analyzes and documents results, and provides a written report with recommendations for corrective action.

Assists in the development of the annual District resurfacing programs and prepares other related contract documents.
