General Summary: To provide students of Sikeston R-6 Schools educational instruction that will foster and accelerate their intellectual, physical, social, and career development in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrate leadership in building the library media program using above average skills in communication, curriculum development, and teaching strategies.
- Involve administrators and teachers in budgeting, program planning, and collection development.
- Provide vision, planning, and leadership in cooperation with administrators to adhere to collection and resource standards and as set forth by DESE Standards for Missouri School Library Media Centers.
- Provide a flexible library media center schedule so students and staff have unlimited physical and intellectual access to a wide range of materials.
- Plan special reading promotional programs for students.
- Support teachers' efforts in integrating information literacy into the curriculum.
- Provide access to information resources within and outside the school.
- Design activities that help students learn to identify, analyze, and synthesize information by using a variety of materials and formats.
- Collaborate with teachers and other library media specialists through the process of designing, implementing, and evaluating instruction.
- Provide multi-disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning.
- Collaborate with teachers in planning the integration of library skills into the curriculum.
- Cooperatively select appropriate print and non-print material for the level being served.
- Use telecommunications as a communications and resource tool.
- Integrate technology as a tool for student and staff learning.
- Use information technology applications in resource-based instruction.
- Create documents in a variety of computer applications on multiple platforms.
- Facilitate the use of presentation tools in print, technology, and media.
- Provide building level orientation and in-service for specific technology found in the media center.
- Serve as an expert in organizing, synthesizing, and communicating information about the library media center program to students, staff, and parents.
- Communicate with staff members about new materials, technology, research, and other professional opportunities.
- Design the library media facility in relationship to program needs.
- Demonstrate leadership in professional organizations.
- Maintain library automation software for collection and required inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Qualifications
- Education level – Bachelor's degree
- Certification or Licensure –Valid Missouri teaching certificate. Certification for school library media specialist K-12.
- Other requirements – Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education. Understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Computer literate and willing to administer library circulation software
