Public Policy Intern – Workforce Development
POSITION SUMMARY:
The DC Hospital Association (DCHA) is the voice of hospitals and health systems in the District of Columbia. We work to advance health policy, strengthen the health care workforce, and improve patient care across the District.
The Policy Intern – Workforce Development will support initiatives focused on building and sustaining DC’s health care workforce. This position provides administrative, research, and coordinative support to the Workforce Development and Public Policy teams and assists with meetings, events, publications, and special projects. The intern will gain hands-on experience in health policy, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement, while directly supporting apprenticeship, training, and health care workforce programs that advance DCHA’s mission.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Assist with research and policy analysis on health care workforce trends and challenges.
- Support the development of workforce development strategies and programs.
- Attend meetings, briefings, and events with local, regional, and federal stakeholders.
- Draft summaries, reports, and presentation materials for leadership.
- Contribute to DCHA’s workforce development initiatives, including apprenticeship and training programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Research and Policy Support
- Conduct research and policy analysis on health care workforce trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Support the development of workforce development strategies, apprenticeship models, and training programs.
- Assist in identifying and monitoring legislative and regulatory policies, programs, and proposals relevant to the health care workforce.
- Attend select hearings, meetings, and briefings with local, regional, and federal stakeholders, and assist with testimony preparation.
- Draft summaries, reports, and presentation materials for leadership.
Administrative and Coordination Support
- Provide research and clerical support to Workforce Development and Public Policy staff.
- Assist in coordinating committee meetings, preparing notices, announcements, and follow-up materials.
- Support the preparation and production of documents, toolkits, and workforce publications.
- Assist with maintaining and updating workforce development metrics and dashboards to ensure data accuracy.
Events and Engagement
- Assist with planning and executing meetings, workshops, and events related to health care workforce initiatives.
- Manage registration and communication for seminars and workforce training sessions.
- Support tabling activities, site visits, and partner events to promote apprenticeship and training opportunities.
- Provide basic technical and audiovisual support for presentations and workforce convenings.
Special Projects
- Contribute to DCHA’s workforce initiatives, including apprenticeship expansion, policy briefs, and data collection.
- Develop and edit outreach materials, brochures, and e-brochures highlighting workforce opportunities.
- Support coordination of grants, workgroups, and collaborations with education and training partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in public policy, public health, health care administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge or interest in health education, promotion, and workforce development.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, partners, and the public.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The rate of pay for this position is $18 per hour. This position is a non-permanent and non-benefit-eligible position.
