Data Science Intern
AI & Diversity
We are conscious of the challenges of the current hiring market and of the role of the widespread use of LLMs and other AI in incentivizing applying to as many positions as possible using machine-generated or tweaked application materials.
At Tolemi, we do not use any automated filtering; we commit to ensuring all applications are seen by a human familiar with the requirements of the role.
We recommend taking care with your application and telling us about what excites you about Tolemi in particular. In intern candidates, we particularly value curiosity, organization, and an interest in tech for social good, particularly as it relates to housing and urban policy issues.
Research suggests that qualified women, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) may self-select out of opportunities if they don't meet 100% of the job requirements. We encourage individuals who believe they have the skills necessary to thrive to apply for this role regardless of whether you meet all requirements.
About Tolemi
Tolemi is a startup of about 25 total employees dedicated to growing sustainably while helping cities and municipal governments improve lives by making use of their wealth of data. The engineering team is small and close-knit, and collaborates closely with other departments.
- Engineering culture: we work on small pieces of work at a time, ship often, and keep in close contact with our users. We work with a high degree of autonomy and, consequently, trust.
- About half of our team works remotely from locations across the US and Europe. We hold a quarterly on-site at our office in downtown Boston with the whole company, where we reflect on the past quarter, plan for the coming quarter, share knowledge, and connect with our coworkers.
- We value taking initiative, asking questions and treating our colleagues with kindness and good humour. We endeavor to create a high trust environment where each team member has autonomy and confidence to take on big problems and we work closely together towards our company goal of empowering cities to better serve their residents.
- Our company values are grit, hunger, balance, impact, and transparency.
