Graduate Student Director

Seeking a qualified student for the position of Graduate Student Director for the College of Arts and Humanities Student Ambassador Program for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. The assistantship includes a 6-credit GA for both Fall 2026 and Spring 2026. Paid hourly work is only available in the Summer and Winter of 2026, as needed, e.g., to train and prepare for upcoming semester duties and to assist the college office.

Job Description

The selected student will direct the Student Ambassador program during the 2026-27 academic year, training, guiding, and mentoring undergraduate student ambassadors and assuring that the program’s outcomes are achieved. The Graduate Student Director of the Ambassador Program will also supervise the ambassador’s schedules and coordinate their activities, holding weekly staff meetings with the ambassadors (typically 10-12 students). Other duties include organizing and attending various events, including recruitment and admissions events, department Shadow Days, and other events involving students. The ideal candidate will have some availability this Spring to shadow the current Graduate Student Director.

Qualifications

·      Matriculated in a graduate program in the College of Arts and Humanities. (Exceptions may be made if applicant is enrolled in a related/relevant graduate program in another college and/or has had experience in a humanities field as an undergraduate student.)

·      Experience tutoring or mentoring peers

·      Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

·      Excellent organizational skills (organizing events, managing projects, utilizing D2L)

·      Ability to work well and lead in a team environment (projects and activities that require collaboration and shared responsibility)

·      Interest in learning about diverse student experiences and in student development

·      Demonstrated interest or effectiveness in supporting student success

·      Professionalism (appropriate disposition and decorum in various settings)

·      Initiative (steps up to tasks without direction, anticipates needs and seeks to address them)

Preference will be given to students who have some knowledge and experience with WCU’s campus and student populations, for example, graduate students who attended WCU as an undergraduate, or a second-semester or second-year graduate student.
