Meteorologist

FOX 9 is seeking an experienced Certified Meteorologist to join our award-winning weather team. Our mantra is simple: We Win Weather. This position plays a critical role in delivering accurate, compelling, and life-saving weather coverage across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

 

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Minnesota and Upper Midwest weather, thrives during severe weather coverage, and is committed to serving audiences wherever they consume weather—on TV, on streaming platforms, and online.

Key Responsibilities

Forecast and present local weather conditions clearly and accurately for scheduled newscasts

Track and report on severe and breaking weather live, communicating forecast impacts viewers can understand

Provide extended and continuous coverage during high-impact weather events

Prepare and present broadcast-quality weather graphics

Deliver weather content across linear television, station streaming services, and OTT/CTV platforms

Participate in and lead live and on-demand streaming coverage, including continuous weather streams during severe weather

Host and contribute to livestreams on digital platforms such as Facebook Live and social media

Produce original digital and streaming weather content, including short-form videos and explainers

Demonstrate a strong commitment to growing and serving streaming and digital audiences

Ad-lib confidently during live broadcasts, streams, and breaking news situations

Collaborate with meteorologists, producers, and digital teams to ensure consistent messaging

Uphold FOX 9’s commitment to winning weather coverage and public safety

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Certified Meteorologist credential required (CBM or equivalent)

Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field

3–5 years of professional on-air television meteorology and/or live storm tracking experience

Demonstrated experience covering severe weather events live

Strong knowledge of Minnesota and Upper Midwest weather patterns

Ability to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced newsroom

Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours during severe weather

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a cold-weather and severe-weather market

Experience producing content for streaming and digital platforms

Strong social media and livestreaming experience

Background in innovative or advanced weather presentation

Skills & Abilities

Strong on-air communication and storytelling skills

High level of creativity balanced with scientific accuracy

Calm, authoritative presence during breaking and severe weather

Strong teamwork and leadership abilities

Adaptability in high-pressure situations

Technical Skills

Proficiency with broadcast weather systems and storm-tracking technology

Experience creating weather graphics for broadcast and digital platforms

Familiarity with livestreaming tools and workflows

Comfort with OTT/CTV platforms and social media publishing

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods during broadcasts and streaming

Ability to work long and irregular hours during severe weather coverage

Ability to function effectively in a high-pressure newsroom environment

Schedule

Full-time, regular position

Weekend on-air schedule

Flexible hours required, including early mornings, evenings, holidays, and extended severe weather coverage
