Summer Intern, Antibody Discovery
The Position
The Antibody Discovery Summer Intern will support Discovery Chemistry research at Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals’ Madison, WI site, contributing to projects focused on antibody development and screening to advance RNAi therapeutic delivery. This internship offers hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology while working alongside scientists on research that directly supports in vivo study prioritization. The intern will gain practical exposure to antibody engineering, screening strategies, and collaborative research in a pharmaceutical discovery environment.
This is an 11-week Summer Internship Program paying $21.00 per hour and requires full-time, onsite work five days per week at the designated location.
Responsibilities
- Culture mammalian cells to produce and test proteins.
- Clone DNA constructs to support protein and antibody expression.
- Express and purify novel antibody constructs.
- Screen novel biologics and oligonucleotides for in vitro activity.
- Investigate cell binding, internalization, and trafficking of antibodies and receptors.
- Maintain accurate and well-organized experimental records.
- Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional research team.
- Follow established laboratory procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards
- Present project updates in weekly group meetings.
- Prepare final deliverables, including a scientific poster and a ~20-minute presentation summarizing project objectives, results, and learning.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled student at an accredited university or college with 2–3 years of college-level coursework in Biochemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting in group settings.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Willingness and ability to spend 75% of the workday in laboratory environments and 25% at a desk
Preferred
- Completion of coursework in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Immunology.
- Prior laboratory experience, including molecular biology or cell-based assays.
- Strong interest in antibody engineering, biologics, or drug discovery research
