Research Technician I

Description: The Research Technician I will support the research activities of the organization by performing laboratory preparation, scientific experiments, and maintenance activities.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Perform research activities as assigned according to established procedures and methods.
  • Support research activities of coworkers by preparing buffers, medias, reagents, and ensuring materials and laboratory spaces are clean and orderly.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment, as necessary, according to established procedures.
  • Document all research activities and maintenance tasks in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN).
  • Assist with research projects and contribute to the development of new protocols and methodologies.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and present findings to laboratory staff.
  • Follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Prepare basic reports, as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology.
  • Ability to follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ability to follow written, standardized instructions and thoroughly document activities required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to operate electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • BS degree in related field, with 0-2 yrs. of work experience required.
  • AS degree in related field, with 2-5 yrs. experience in a laboratory research environment preferred.

  • Occasionally moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • Hazardous conditions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds.
